We made folk music history Saturday night in Rockville Maryland where my friends
Cheryl Kagen and David Spitzer run the Folk N’ Great Music House Concert
Series. Last week Cheryl negotiated a collective bargaining agreement with Local
1000, the traveling musicians union. This has several important implications for
union members like me who make part of our living in these venues; not the least
of which is the ability to contribute to the union’s pension fund. To mark the
moment I led the standing room audience (about 70 folks) in a rowdy chorus of
Woody’s song “The Union Maid”. Thanks to everyone who made the night so
memorable!
